Agra Fort, Agra
The fort was built in red sandstone during 1565-73 by Akbar on the relics of the Rajput and Suri forts on the western banks of Yamuna. Defencewise it was a solid fortification for the insiders. There is also a defensive moat beyond the wall. There are three gateways. The market-facing Delhi Gate at west, though closed today, was the main entrance in the past. Today the only gateway open to the visitors is the Amar Singh Gate at south.
There is also a statue of the King mounted on a horse. There are more than a hundred houses inside the fort. The Fort – laden with memories of Akbar, Jehangir and Shahjahan.
